Floodplain Forensics: detecting historic channel patterns using high resolution topographic data
Abstract: Knowledge of the historic floodplain patterns are essential in understanding the extent, forms and potential flows of channels in semi-arid floodplains. This example follows the steps of a defined method to assess subtle channel patterns by removing the slope of the channel, classifying high resolution topographic data (LIDAR) and visualizing these classes. We created detrended digital elevation models (DEMs) as implemented in the River Bathymetry Toolbox (RBT) to process 1 meter LIDAR DEM data.
